Born in Durham while my father was a student at Carolina Dental School following his military service during the Korean War, I came to Goldsboro at the age of three. I joined the First Baptist Church and later received my Eagle Scout award as a member of Troop Six. I attended Goldsboro City Schools and graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1974. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from East Carolina University, I obtained a Juris Doctor degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was licensed to practice law in the state and federal courts in 1982. I began my career as a prosecutor under the tutelage of Donald McIntosh Jacobs, one of the best District Attorneys ever in this state.
I am married to Margaret Griffin Delbridge. My daughter Miller was born in 1993, and Grace arrived fifteen months later. My girls attended Wayne County Public Schools. I am proud of their many accomplishments including Miller's Conference Tennis Player of the Year award and Grace's graduation as class Valedictorian. Both girls are currently honor students at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and Margaret continues to add to her thirty years as a school teacher.
